Several years ago, I had gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies, because of which I needed to attend several nutritional classes. I was forced to read nutritional labels and pay attention to what I eat, especially desserts. The entire process was an eye opener for me. None of the desserts had any nutritional benefits ... not even the muffins! There was nothing remotely healthy about any of the ingredients. At the same time, I noticed people wanting and trying to eat healthier. When it came to desserts, however, they either deprived themselves or felt very guilty after eating, so they desperately tried to burn off those calories by exercising.
I started experimenting at home with healthy ingredients that were fresh, natural, wholesome, and high-quality. Every dessert that I created was light, healthy, and delicious. Because of the ingredients that I used and the balance of texture and flavors, I never had to compromise on taste. My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed my desserts.
From my own experience, I have learnt that healthy eating habits don’t require cutting out desserts and treats. The secret is portion control and eating desserts that are made of fresh, natural, wholesome, and high-quality ingredients.
After six years of creating and testing recipes, and lots of encouragement and support from my husband, parents, and sister, I decided to launch my own licensed artisanal home-based bakery. Light and Healthy Desserts is my labor of love. It is not just a business, it’s much more ... it’s personal!
It is through my bakery and my creations that I try to educate adults and kids that they can eat desserts made with healthy ingredients that are not only good for them, but also delicious and very satisfying.
Other than baking, I love cooking a variety of cuisines. I am endlessly inspired and challenged by a variety of flavors and ingredients, and aim to create an end product that not only is visually appealing but also tingles the taste buds. I am also very passionate about food styling and food photography. I can spend hours photographing with my Nikon D3300.
When I am not in the kitchen baking or cooking, I love to spend time with my husband and two sons.
I sincerely hope you will enjoy my creations as much as I enjoy making them for you.
From our kitchen to yours ... stay Light and Healthy!
